The Camerata Bariloche is the first Argentine music chamber ensemble to achieve artistic recognition in the American continent, Europe and Asia. They have represented Argentina across 33 countries carrying out more than 25 tours.

Since its inception in 1967, the Camerata has performed more than 2000 concerts in the 23 Argentine provinces and also at relevant festivals and concert halls around the world such as the Carnegie Hall (New York), Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), Musikverein (Vienna), Komische Oper Berlin, Salle Pleyel (Paris), Salzburg Festival, NHK (Tokyo), India International Centre (New Delhi), São Paulo Concert Hall and Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), among many others.

The Camerata has also been granted countless awards, such as the prestigious “Platinum Konex Award” to the Best Chamber Music Group in the history of music in Argentina.

Out of the impressive national and international artists roster who have performed with the Camerata Bariloche, it is worth mentioning Astor Piazzolla, Gerardo Gandini, Ljerko Spiller, Yehudi Menuhin, Janos Starker, Karl Richter, Nicolás Chumachenko, Maxim Vengerov, Jean Pierre Rampal, Vadin Repin, Cho-Liang Lin, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Frederica von Stade, Mstislav Rostropovich and Martha Argerich among others.

Music critics have highlighted the group excellence not only in their performances but also in the recordings made in Argentina, the United States and Europe. However, they reached a wider audience at the historical concert given at Parque Centenario in Buenos Aires, in front of 60.000 people, and the memorable performance at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, where an audience of 130.000 people exceeded the facilities to enjoy the fireworks and Haendel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks performed at the same time by the Camerata.

The Camerata Bariloche has also dabbled in the film industry appearing while performing the music of “Argentinísima”, 1972; “El Canto Cuenta su Historia”, 1976; “El Hombre Olvidado”, 1981; “Un Lugar en el Mundo”, 1991; “Vidas Privadas”, 2002; and “Manuel de Falla, músico de dos mundos”, 2006.

The first musical director was Alberto Lysy, followed by Rubén González, Elías Khayat and Fernando Hasaj; all of them outstanding maestros not only in Argentina but all over the world. Freddy Varela Montero is currently the concertmaster and musical director.
