Dorian Sono Luminus invites you to enjoy a celebration of the Christmas season live from Washington D.C. with one of the nations nest choral ensembles, The Washington Chorus. Under the direction of master conductor Julian Wachner, The Chorus brings the holiday season into full swing with performances of some of the world’s most beloved Christmas favorites.

Founded in 1961 as the Oratorio Society of Washington, The Washington Chorus is noted for its critically- acclaimed performances and recordings of the entire range of the choral repertoire. A GRAMMY Award winner for “Best Choral Performance” for its live performance recording of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem and and the GRAMMY® Award-winning Of Rage and Remembrance by John Corigliano with the National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Leonard Slatkin, the 180-voice Washington Chorus has been considered a cultural leader in the Washington area for decades. The Chorus presents an annual subscription series at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Music Center at Strathmore, and other major venues throughout the Washington, D.C. area. The Chorus frequently appears at the invitation of the National Symphony Orchestra, singing under the direction of many of the world’s greatest conductors, including Christoph Eschenbach, Leonard Slatkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Neville Marriner, Charles Dutoit, Kent Nagano, and many others. In addition to its regular Kennedy Center performances, the Chorus has sung throughout the metropolitan area and has received acclaim for numerous world premieres.

Music Director of The Washington Chorus, Julian Wachner is one of North America’s most exciting and versatile musicians, sought-after as conductor, organist and composer. In the 2009-2010 season, he made New York City Opera history having been selected as both conductor and composer at the company’s annual VOX festival of contemporary opera. Wachner has led critically acclaimed recordings for Chandos, Naxos, Atma Classique, Arsis, Musica Omnia, and Titanic labels.

Performing Christmas favorites from Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World, and their powerful rendition of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, The Washington Chorus’ Live performance from Strathmore Hall is sure to become a holiday favorite. Joined by the Whitman Choir and National Capitol Brass and Percussion, these arrangements of these holiday favorites will light up homes around the world throughout the season.
